After a few weak showings in previous WPBT events I finally cracked the final table and went out in 6th. If this had been a WPT event I would have been on television (I also would have probably busted out a lot sooner).
Some really good competition tonight. My first table was tight as a drum so I stayed away from any sort of drawing hands. I got lucky a few times, especially when my AQ went up against AK and I made the straight.
Lately when I find myself at these tight tables with one or two really aggressive players I like to limp with my big hands AA, KK, etc. and induce the steal-raise from them. Then I push all in and they either have to fold or they push and usually get busted. Normally you want to raise to thin the field a bit but if you’re at a table that’s going fold, fold, fold, raise, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold then I think this can be a profitable move. The aggressive players like to raise 4 or 5 times the BB on these tight/passive tables so they usually figure that if you limped you must have a weak hand. I’m constantly amazed at the crap they call with. You’ll see Q9, KJ, A4, etc. Bye, bye! If you don’t bust them they sure as hell think twice about raising if you’ve limped ahead of them 🙂
At the final table, StudioGlyphic and TheFilmGeek started a cheering section for me but unfortunately I had to let them down when I just couldn’t pick up a hand. I kept seeing hands like 92o, Q3o, etc. and I got blinded down. The only playable hand I had near the end was AJo and it was two all-ins ahead of me. I knew my AJ was no good there (and I was right) so I mucked it and tried to wait for a better spot to get my money in. That didn’t happen and I was forced in on the blind with Qx and Iggy took me out with his pocket sevens.
Now if I could only win a WSOP main event entry and place 6th . . . I would be happy with that 🙂
