Played in the weekly blogger tournament at HDouble‘s pad last night. It was HDouble, Mrs. HDouble, Franklin, Chris the Geek, Lance (of the infamous home game fame), Full Tilt Chris, Ryan and moi.
We started off playing a little Stud Hi-Lo to mix things up a bit. Pretty normal. Nothing too good or bad to report except Chris the Geek got smacked in the face with the deck. I mean, it wasn’t that he had the best hand but every hand was a monster. Uh, you mean, A2345s is a good hand? 🙂 Chris cleaned up. I think he ended up tripling up his buy-in and I was down a whopping $4.
Next we decided to play some NL HE tournament style (despite HDouble’s invite which stated that Stud Hi-Lo would be the only game played this evening). That was a huge strategic mistake. Mrs. HDouble is an absolute terror at NL HE. I placed third last week after a crushing defeat laid on me by Mrs. HDouble and this week she made sure I wasn’t going to see the money.
First couple of orbits and I pick up AQs. Blinds are $10/$20 and I raise it to $60 from LP. Mrs. HDouble gives one of her patented smiles and makes it $200 to go. AQo and I might lay this down. AQs and Mrs. HDouble’s propensity to get aggressive with any two and I’ve gotta call here. Flop comes KKQ. I check and she makes a pot sized bet. I sense weakness here but the one thing you quickly learn about Mrs. HDouble is that whatever your read is on her it’s likely wrong. I decide to call and see how she plays the turn. Turn is another K. I check and she checks. Well, well, that’s pretty interesting. Maybe she’s on jacks or tens. Of course, I’m really only afraid of two hands now. Aces or any hand with a K in it but she just checked so there’s no way she has a K. River is a Q. Now, the worst I can do is split this pot if she has an ace, right? Since we only started off with $1000 in chips I’m down to less than $300 and we’ve got a $1200+ pot. I throw in my last $300 figuring if I didn’t she would and Mrs. HDouble calls with AA. Busted out!
Later in the game HDouble asked me if I wanted a piece of his action and I told him that I would rather take a piece of Mrs. HDouble’s action. He scoffed at my lack of faith but Mrs. HDouble was on a roll. She knocked out EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THE TOURNAMENT! We had bounties going and she collected every bounty chip. Nobody escaped her terror.
One of my favorite beats was Chris the Geek playing a short stack and he goes all in from LP. Mrs. HDouble had just lost a good sized pot and starts fidgeting in the BB. When the action gets to her she announces that she knows she’s beat but she’s in crisis mode (she was down to less than a 2:1 chip lead over everyone else at the table) and doesn’t care if she plays this hand too aggressively. Chris shows 33 and Mrs. HDouble flips up 99. Nobody improves and Chris is out.
All I have to say is; This will not be repeated a third week in a row. Mrs. HDouble, you’re going down! 🙂
