I guess yesterday started off like any other normal day. I was plugging away on some work and then I got a text message from a friend of mine who lives out on some farm in Isaan (North East Thailand). She used to live here in Bangkok but decided to move back home to stay with her family. She said she was in town for a day and wanted to know if we could hang out. Sure.
Then I got a message from Bobby, someone I had exchanged some messages with on 2+2, that he was also in town and he wanted to see if we could meet up. Sure.
So Dia says she’ll swing by my place and then we can go out from there. Great. We head over to the Sports Academy, which has some nice pool tables, decent food, and is generally a cool place to hang out.
I ping Bobby and tell him we’re up at SA and he says he’s mid-foot massage at the moment and he’ll swing by after.
So far so good.
Ordered some food, shot some pool, and then Bobby shows up with a buddy of his. So Bobby and I start gabbing away. I guess the funniest part was finding out that when he used to live in Thailand he lived in the same exact apartment building I’m in. He even had pics on his phone of the pool area.
Well, I went to pull out my keys to show him my electronic pass card with the building logo on it that lets you up the elevators and I realize it’s not in my pocket. Dammit!!
Around 12:30 or so I figure I better head home since I’m going to have to call a locksmith and have him let me in my room.
Drop Dia off at some hotel where her friend that she was staying with was having some sort of staff party and head back to Casa del la Bill.
I was really, really, really hoping the building management had spare keys for all the apartments but that dream was shattered very quickly. So they tell me they have to call the building maintenance guy who can pick the lock but it’ll cost me 500 baht. Ugh.
I wait around for him and he finally show up around 1:30am and we head up to my apartment. Zip, bang, boom the door is open, I hand him his 500 baht, and not two steps inside are my keys sitting on the kitchen counter.
Man, I wanted to punch myself in the face for that.
Well, at least you didn’t have to get your locks changed:)
Ugh. Unfortunate, but these things happen. Some days are like this, while other days you just can’t go wrong. This is part of life and all you can do is stay positive and keep a sense of humor laughing in times like these. Thanks for sharing.
