Bad Play Of The Week

I had this one happen to me the other day on Party:

I have QQ in EP and raise it up. I get a call from the BB. Flop comes Jxx. BB checks, I bet, he calls. Turn is a K. He checks, I smell something funny here (What would he call a pre-flop raise with that a K or J didn’t help?) so I check behind. Flop is a trash card and he bets. I still think something is just not right with this hand so I just call figuring either he had the king and tried for a check-raise and missed or he was trying to bluff me off the pot. Since this is Party it’s a 50/50 chance either way. 🙂 He flips up AA?!?

Although I lost this hand, he only made 3SB (my call/raise pre-flop and the bet on the flop) and 1BB for a total of 2.5BB. First off, he could have re-raised me pre-flop. I would have become a little worried if he re-re-re-raised me but I would have certainly called another bet and would have likely put in another raise myself. He could have check-raised me or bet into me on the flop and picked up another bet. And so on and so on. Basically he left a ton of money on the table trying to be tricky.

Not only did he make very little off of this premium hand but had I had a hand like KJs (hey, I remember way back in the day when I thought that was a raising hand from EP) or spiked a set this guy would have check-raised me on either the turn or the river after I had him beat and he would have lost a lot of money on a hand that he could have pushed me off of had he played the hand aggressively.

I typed in the chat window:

Me: Why did you check-call your pocket aces?

Fish: I was trying to lure you in.

How much you want to bet this guy has pissed and moaned on some message board about his pocket aces getting cracked all the time?

Congratulations Mr. Slow Play My Pocket Aces, you are this week’s winner of the Bad Play Of The Week.
