As far as I know (as in, I haven’t had anybody mention it to me) no poker clients are blocked within Thailand but the websites of the sites offering online poker sometimes are. One of my favorite sites, Full Tilt Poker, is blocked here. So I decided to run check out what other sites are blocked by the Thai government.
PokerStars NOT BLOCKED
Full Tilt Poker BLOCKED
iPoker
- Titan Poker NOT BLOCKED
- Victor Chandler NOT BLOCKED
- William Hill NOT BLOCKED
PartyPoker NOT BLOCKED
Ongame
- Bwin NOT BLOCKED
- Betsson NOT BLOCKED
- Hollywood Poker NOT BLOCKED
UB NOT BLOCKED
Absolute Poker NOT BLOCKED
Everest Poker NOT BLOCKED
So my best guess is some Thai official must have taken a bad beat on Full Tilt and blocked their website. LOL Interestingly, Full Tilt seems to shoot themselves in the foot a bit. The IP address of the server is 91.211.98.20 and if you try to go there directly from the IP address it redirects you to the domain name which . . . gets blocked.
I would imagine they probably go after sports books and casinos more aggressively. I know that Betfair is blocked (they also have a poker room). In fact, they’re pretty damn aggressive about it. They’ve even blocked subdomains like betting.betfair.com which is where they keep their blog. I have to guess this is an issue with the “protected” sports bookies in Thailand who don’t want their players getting better prices online.
Not sure there was a point to all of this. Maybe someone at Full Tilt will read this and figure out some sort of workaround.
